Mission Report

78 year old Dick and his wife Judy live in San Antonio but they also have a place in North Carolina. It was while they were spending time in North Carolina that Judy found Dick unconscious on their porch. After being rushed to the hospital it was determined that he had bleeding in his brain. He has been in the hospital for a few months now.

Judy contacted us about a month ago to set up the transport to get him home. We worked closely together along with the case manager, Michelle. Every time I spoke with Michelle she was so bubbly and positive and she along with the staff were extremely instrumental in getting things lined up for this transport. I found myself looking forward to talking to her just to hear the excitement in her voice. God also blessed us with the opportunity to meet when we arrived to pick Dick up.

We entered the room as Judy was holding Dick’s hand and giving him reassurance and comfort. She explained to us that he has lost a lot of weight with his lengthy illness and hospitalization.

She is a short lady with short dark curly hair. Dick is a large robust gentleman, his hair a soft gray color. His cheeks are pink and rosy and his eyes are a stunning deep brown. With the help of our ground crew Ben and Tracy and the hospital staff we get him situated onto our cot. Many of the staff are hugging Judy and reminding Dick that they want to see him when he gets better. He shook his head in agreement.

As we exit the hospital we are greeted by Dick’s daughter-in-law as she is holding Dick’s handsome four-legged son, Harley. He is a beautiful stout black and brown german shepherd that he and Judy adopted a few years ago. It is easy to see the age in Harley’s face but when he sees Dick he is like a pup.
Boy is he ever excited to see his papa. We call him over to the cot so that Dick can rub his head and I am sure I saw Harley smile. Judy, Harley and their daughter-in-law will be driving back to Texas over the next few days.

Dick did well during his flight, staying awake most of the time. He seemed to enjoy looking out the window. He spoke mainly of his son Brad and how he wanted to talk with him. We arrived in San Antonio to a temperature of 103 degrees. A little toasty to say the least !
When we got to his new room sure enough his son Brad was there along with his grandson. Dick smiled at the sound of his voice. It was a sweet reunion. We prayed with Dick before we left and for travel safety for Judy.

3 JOHN 1:5
DEAR FRIEND, YOU ARE FAITHFUL IN WHAT YOU ARE DOING FOR THE BROTHERS AND SISTERS, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE STRANGERS TO YOU.

We want to thank the hospital staff and our ambulance crew both in North Carolina and in Texas they were all a huge help to us and this family. Their kindness did not go unnoticed. We greatly appreciate each one of them and pray that they will to continue to give the outstanding care that we observed.

Thank you to Hal and Chris for sharing this mission with me.

Many Blessings,

Shelli Engle RN
