Mission Report

83 year old James (Jim) and his wife have been here in Indiana staying with their daughter Maria. They are originally from Cleveland.

Unfortunately during their stay Jim became ill and required hospitalization. His family contacted us to get him back to his home in Cleveland.

We arrive at his bedside here in Indy to find him surrounded by his loving family. His wife Rita will be riding back to Cleveland with Maria and their son Jim will be flying with us. The family is excited that he will get to fly since he used to be a private pilot and has a passion for flying.

We explained that although we could not allow him to sit in the co-pilot seat he would indeed have a window seat and we could leave his headset on so he could hear the air traffic control monitoring. He chuckled about that.

As we bundled him up, Rita said her good- byes and we promised to take good care of him. Her eyes watered as she leaned in to give him a kiss. It was a sweet moment. We all boarded Abe and took our respective seats. Jim has an interesting family. His daughter Maria works in the banking industry, his son in New York is in the fashion industry and his son Jim is a Hollywood cameraman.

Jim worked in the construction business. He loves snowmobiling and he and his son shared several stories about their snowmobiling adventures. He especially loves the feeling of going fast. He made reference to his jaguar and the speeds he had gotten that up to. He and Rita have been married over 60 years.

He claims the secret is “trust and understanding.” He said she didn’t trust him and he didn’t understand why. Jim is quite a hoot you can tell he has really enjoyed life.During our short flight he asked me to please let him know when we crossed the Indiana / Ohio line. In no time at all I did just as he asked and alerted him even telling him I thought I saw the “welcome to Ohio” sign down below. Just being back in Ohio gave him such comfort that he lightly whispered, “I am back home” and closed his eyes then napped the rest of the flight.

During our ambulance trip to the hospital he called my name and said, “Shelli, call my daughter and wife and let them know I am here.” I called Maria and she laughed since her brother had already been in contact with her, I also shared how well he did on the flight.

We got him to the hospital and after placing him into bed, I kissed his forehead. His son Jim walked us out of the room and thanked us several times for caring and loving on his father. We had a great time with them, it was definitely a blessing for us.

ECCLESIATES 3:11
HE HAS MADE EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IN ITS TIME. HE HAS ALSO SET ETERNITY IN THE HUMAN HEART; YET NO ONE CAN FATHOM WHAT GOD HAS DONE FROM BEGINNING TO END.

Thank you to Hal, Jason and John for sharing this mission with me.

Many Blessings
