Mission 155-156 Mission 154 | View All Mission Reports | Mission 157 Departure: Arrival: Date: Mission Report Grace on Wings was able to do it’s first double patient flight-husband and wife. Janet and Allen C were driving back to their home in Baltimore from visiting family in Iowa when they were involved in a head-on collision near Peoria Illinois 3 weeks ago. Allen said he never did find out what caused the man to cross the center line and collide with them. Fortunately the car’s airbags deployed and saved their lives. Allen suffered a mild head injury and broken ankle, but his wife had chest and lung injuries as well as broken arm and leg and head injury and ended up on ventilator support. With no family near, Allen went to a nursing home so he could make daily trips by wheelchair van to visit his wife. As Janet stabilized, we got the call from their daughter to see if there was a way to transport both of them home. With a challenging logistical undertaking, we got Allen to the airport via wheelchair van and I evaluated him as our RT Chris and nurse Matt went in the ambulance to go get Janet. When they arrived back, I told Janet that I had just spoke to their daughter and could hear their 4 grandkids in the background excited about dressing up for Halloween and she smiled. Allen said it was ironic to be flying on Halloween because he and his wife had actually met (over 40 years ago) on Halloween. We loaded Janet and then assisted Allen in the back seat. We were met by their family at Baltimore airport and Janet was taken to Baltimore Shock Trauma as Allen was off to see the orthopedist to schedule more ankle surgery. We pray for their continued healing. Thanks to great crew of Hal, Mike, Chris, Matt and Bob for making this “two-fer” happen in Christ’s name. Tam
