Mission Report

This was exciting for me because it was my first flight with Grace On Wings. I first heard about Grace On Wings at church awhile back and have been interested ever since. God (finally) worked things out for me to go. Since it was my first flight, I observed for the most part but tried to make myself useful to Hal, Mike, Kim and Terry without getting in the way.

Since the previous weekend was the Indianapolis Air Show, Nellie was still out at the Mt. Comfort airport. After meeting at the Indy airport where Nellie is hangared, one of the brothers drove us to Mt. Comfort. From there, we set out for Topeka, KS. God gave us a beautiful flying day.

Once there, we picked up Cody W, who is from Jacksonville, FL. Cody sustained a significant head injury in an ATV accident several days before but God had brought him along so well that he could stand and move to our stretcher with very little assistance.

He wore a specially-made helmet for extra protection when moving around. The helmet prevented him from wearing a headset so Terry gave him some earplugs because the cabin tends towards the noisy side.

Cody slept a good bit of the trip to Jacksonville. Nellie’s new engines helped the uneventful trip go quickly, along with the great flying weather. Hal and Mike did a great job up front.

We met Cody’s mom at the rehab center where Cody will continue his recovery. Tears of thankfulness and joy ran down her cheeks as she first hugged her son. Then she hugged a few people she had just met (us).

After getting Cody settled in his room, we made a circle around him and prayed for him and his family. My mind went to Psalm 125:2 – “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore.”

Along with everyone who supports this ministry, we were but little extensions of the great God who had surrounded Cody whole time. “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27).
