True Sacrifice
By Pastor Tom Jameson
“Each of you has received a gift to
use to serve others. Be good
servants of God’s various gifts of
grace.” 1 Peter 4:10
This scriptural by-line underscores the
mission of Grace on Wings: Showing
Christ’s love Through Aviation.
I
continue to marvel at how creatively
obedient God can lead His people
to be, and the ways in which He uses
that to extend His grace to a lost and
hurting world.
Grace on Wings is a
continuing testimony of God’s
faithfulness.
And it is also a great encourager to
all of us as to how we can be serving
God and showing Christ’s love.
The
command of 1 Peter 4:10 essentially
means that followers of Jesus are
called to be “Showing Christ’s Love
Through…” – something!How did
God make His love known to us?
How did He show it?
|
Some might say
through creation, others through
blessings, and others through family and friends. But these specific examples
of love don’t capture the extent of God’s
love. Ultimately God showed his love for
us in a specific, clear and intentional
action that addressed our greatest need:
“God demonstrates his own love for us in
this: While we were still sinners, Christ
died for us.” (Romans 5:8) “This is love,
not that we loved God but that he loved
us and gave his son as an atoning
sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:10)
"For God so loved the world that he gave
his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life.” (John 3:16)
You see, God showed His love in a
specific way, so that we could receive a
specific benefit. And it involved two
specific actions of Jesus.
First, that he
would show God’s love through sacrifice.
Second, that he would go in obedience to
the Father. Jesus left heaven’s realm to
become one of us, to do for us what we
could never do for ourselves.
He offered
himself as a sacrifice for our sins, so we
could know the forgiveness of God is his
name!
Sacrificing and going; going and
sacrificing.
This is how the love of
Christ is shown. |
